We all know the famous “Bold or Brunette” argument. The bottom line is every person has his or her own opinion on things. Art, music, money, family…So what is the point of fighting the system when you know every opinion is different? Your art is your art, it’s your expression of yourself and nobody can ever tell you otherwise…BUT
There is one opinion that stays the same! Blond, Brunette, Red Hair, Purple, etc. If you show up to a date looking like a mess and smelling like one, it doesn’t matter how attractive you are! You will fail!!!
Now how do we apply that to music you ask? Well, the analogy here is that you might get away with a masterpiece if it’s WOW, but most of the time the world will never really get to hear the real beauty of your music simply because your mix sucks! Well doesn’t that just suck all around!!! Not really actually, because you can get away with a half-decent record simply because it looks, smells, and is dressed like gold! And getting a solid mix down is actually the easy part about your job as an artist! If you are a beautiful and handsome dude about to go on a date, why on earth would you NOT dress up?
The moral of the story, focus on your mix. And if your mix sucks work your ass off and keep getting better. If you plan on releasing music as you perfect your mixing it’s best to save up some cash and get it done by a professional. DO NOT release unmixed material just because you think it’s a good idea, IT’S NOT!
