HOW TO BUILD A LOYAL FAN BASE

Now that you are ready to become a rockstar it’s time to find some loyal fans! Most up-and-coming artists simply assume that if you post your music regularly enough fans from all around the world will miraculously discover you and fall in love with your art! This is by far the biggest misconception EVER, and why you ask?

Simple, if you are an artist who plans on pushing the boundaries of your sound to the limit, there is a high chance your music will sound totally different to an average listener. In our cases when you sound super unique that’s usually a great sign, but don’t underestimate the power of crowd approval.

Most new music needs to have mass approval before it gets accepted by the public. Think of some of your favorite established artists and when they drop something completely new, the reaction initially is not a great one. People in general need to feel comfortable listening to something that feels right at home for them. Does that mean you need to focus on music that has already been done? Absolutely not! What it means is that if you want to push the boundaries, you must learn how to properly cater your art to a new audience.

But what audience if I have no fans? Well, this is where a little magic sauce happens. The easiest way to carefully present a new sound with something recognizable is to simply focus on Remixes and Edits of established songs with a twist of your own magic. It’s almost like tricking people into submission without them even noticing they are now eating up your sauce!

When you were a kid, your parents would always say, “Eat your vegetables, and then you will get the ice cream”. And just like that, before you know it, you start appreciating the vegetables more and in many cases fall in love with them! It’s Magic!!!

The moral of the story is, that if you plan on feeding people veggies, be sure to promise them ice cream as well! As far as building a loyal fan base, things are now a whole lot easier, because you are targeting fans of the original vocal or song they can relate to. The market is already there, all you need to do is a little targeting and they will come to you! My entire career initially was built purely on remix work! The Prodigy, Guarillaz, Ellie Goulding, The Island Remix, and many many more!
